Adopt A Ship International
Information
Adopt A Ship International (AASI) connects seafarers with students worldwide to promote maritime awareness, inspire future careers at sea, and strengthen collaboration between the shipping industry and communities.
In 2026, AASI’s flagship programmed in San Pedro, Philippines (AAS SP) is engaging approximately 37,000 students through a structured two-semester initiative involving public elementary and secondary schools. Delivered in partnership with international shipping companies, the program facilitates weekly communication between ship officers and students, providing real-world insight into life at sea and global trade.
AASI is strongly aligned with key UN Sustainable Development Goals, including:
- SDG 4 – Quality Education
- SDG 5 – Gender Equality
- SDG 14 – Life Below Water
- SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals
AASI started in 2015. It is built on measurable impact, KPIs, supported by structured surveys and assessments that track increases in maritime awareness, understanding, and career interest.
AASI’s partnership with IMEC and the GOLD Foundation, along with the Nautical Institute and many leading global shipping companies, allowed AASI to continuously expand in the number of students participating and also expand content/elements within the program..
AASI was honored with the Crew Connect Global Award for Partnership (2025) and continues to demonstrate how industry collaboration, education, and seafarer engagement can collectively strengthen the future maritime workforce.
At CrewConnect 2026, AASI is proud to showcase the collective contributions of its partners and its growing impact in inspiring the next generation of maritime professionals.
